Waiting for the Light

Tonight's service is called Waiting for the Light. It's at Sacred Trinity (on Chapel St off Deansgate) at 8pm (last minute plug!).

However, I've just been "rehearsing" it at home this afternoon - I'm leading it because Ben and Ruth are busy with the gorgeous Jude - and I think it's going to be a stunner! Ben wrote almost all of it so I can't take any credit but I think we deserve extra brownie points this time for linking (not giving anything away) Jack Nicholson, brown paper bags, a complete black out, Homer's Odyssey, and Advent. And of course the usual obligatory seasonal food - mince pies...

More later once it's over. Maybe even a photo or two if you're all good children...

OK, well that will teach me (again!) not to have too high an expectation of anything I'm running! But seriously, thanks to everyone who helped out at the service tonight and made sure that both I and it kept going...

Despite being a bit low on numbers (25 or so), and having almost everything blow up or break before or during the service (no really - everything!), I hope it helped people approach the last week of Advent thoughtfully and with anticipation.

I guess that once in a while the technology/ heating/ LX-stuff is all going to bust itself simultaneously... I just wonder why it always happens to me, whilst Ben is not there!! Anyway if all else fails, at least I now know about 4 ways to blow up or burn down a 17th century grade 2* listed building...

Well, from the other side of things, I only noticed one technical hitch during the service, and that was quickly fixed. So, I guess it looks a lot worse when you're running a service seeing things break and then having to quickly fix them.... from our (the punters) point of view, almost all of this was unnoticed.

I thought the service was great! Highlights: the little creed in a box, and star in a bag. I love these little texts we get at services, they're so handy, I tend to keep them in my jacket pocket and read them when I wanna reconnect. Oooo, and the O Brother Where art Thou vid clip was gratefully recieved! I love this movie, and the railroad prophet link worked well. And of course, communion. Cris always does it so well, and I'm always fixated by the act itself. Rock on!

So Laura, despite the gremlins best efforts, I'm going to chalk this one up as a resounding sucess!

Ha! That'll teach 'em.
