I noticed that a lot of the charities I like and would be happy to give to are part of DEC anyway. It seems to make more sense to give to an organisation where everyone is working together. It's also good to see my tax going somewhere good.
I haven't thought this through thoroughly so it might not be mathematically possible, but what if everyone gave away enough money so that all the tax they had paid was reclaimed from the government? Presumably we'd all have to live on our £4000 tax-free allowance, which could be tricky. Hmmm
