It's not really new.. the US has being saying similar for a while.
In some ways I can see their point. Do we *need* another agency with all the bureaucracy that that entails when we already have structures and rules in place for giving debt relief?
Why not just enable the IMF to give more debt relief? It's their money anyway...
I suspect that 'Generous Gordon' is trying to create a legacy for himself (helps his poll ratings and future chance of being leader) whilst also genuinely wanting to help.
How much is politics and how much is genuine we'll find out over the next few weeks I guess.
